Why isn't my business showing up on Google Maps?

Short answer

Usually one of four things: your profile isn't verified yet, someone else already claimed it, it was suspended for a policy issue, or it exists and is just ranking low for the search you tried. Each has its own fix, and none of them requires paying someone who claims a special relationship with Google.

Is my profile missing, or just ranking low?

Search your exact business name first. If it comes up, your profile exists and the real problem is rank, not visibility, which is a different question with a different answer. If nothing comes up even for your own name, something further back is broken: verification, ownership, or a suspension, covered below.

Is my profile verified?

An unverified profile can exist but stay largely invisible, and you can’t reply to reviews or make most changes until it’s verified. Google’s verification page lists the current methods, which depend on your business type and can include phone or text, email, or video. Check your profile status before assuming anything else is wrong.

What if someone else already claimed my business?

It happens, sometimes through a past employee, sometimes through someone with no connection to the business at all. Google has a request-ownership process for exactly this: you request access through Google, and Google emails whoever holds the profile now. It takes some back and forth, but you can run it yourself, free.

My profile was suspended. How do I get it back?

Suspensions usually trace to a specific guideline issue: a business name with extra keywords or a tagline added to it, which Google’s guidelines say can get a profile suspended by itself, a fake or duplicate location, or a category that doesn’t match what the business actually does. Fix the underlying problem first. Appealing without fixing it just gets you suspended again.

Should I pay someone to get my profile reinstated?

Not for the appeal. Don’t pay anyone who says they can restore a suspended profile through a contact at Google; the appeal is Google’s own form, reachable from your account, and filing it costs nothing. Finding and fixing the guideline problem underneath is different. That’s real work, and it can be worth paying for. What should end the conversation is the claim of an inside track.

If you’re not sure which of these applies to you, a Business Audit goes through your Business Profile point by point, so you’re working from a diagnosis instead of a guess. If you’d rather hand the profile off entirely, profile management comes with every Forward Dawn plan.
