What is missed-call text-back, and does it actually help?

Short answer

It's an automatic text to anyone whose call you didn't pick up, sent the moment they hang up, so the conversation keeps going instead of going cold. We think it helps: a caller who hears back within the minute is still deciding, not already dialing the next name on the list. It's in every Forward Dawn plan from $297 a month.

How does missed-call text-back work?

When a call to your business number goes unanswered (you’re mid-job, on another line, or closed for the night), the system sends a text within moments: a quick apology, a note that you’ll follow up, or a link to book. In our plans it feeds the CRM pipeline, so the lead doesn’t disappear into a text thread nobody opens again.

How fast do I need to get back to a new lead?

As fast as you honestly can. Someone who gets through to a competitor while waiting on you has little reason to call you back. What a text-back buys is the gap between “I missed this call” and “I’m free to deal with it properly”: the caller knows they were heard instead of wondering whether the call went through.

What should the text actually say?

Short, and plainly from you. Name your business so it isn’t a mystery number, say you missed them, and give one easy next step: a booking link, a quick question about what they need, or a callback with a rough time. Skip anything that reads like a form letter.

Are there rules about texting people who called me?

Yes. This is general information, not legal advice. Business text messages run through registered messaging systems, and anyone you text needs a way to opt out. The wireless industry’s messaging guidelines call for standard STOP wording, and they ask for a separate agreement before anyone gets promotional texts, so a caller shouldn’t land on a marketing list just because they called once. A text-back should identify your business and respect an opt-out the moment it’s requested. Whether it needs the caller’s permission before that first text is a question to settle with whoever handles your compliance, before you turn the feature on, not after a customer complains.

When is a text-back not enough?

When the caller needs help now, not in five minutes. An emergency repair, a burst pipe, anything where the caller is deciding between you and whoever answers first, needs a live person or a voice receptionist picking up, not a text promising a callback. Text-back is worth turning on for any business that misses calls while working, but it was never meant to replace answering the phone.
