How long does SEO take to work?
Short answer
Longer than most people hope. Technical fixes show up in weeks, but rankings wait for search engines to re-crawl your site and re-evaluate it, and how long that takes depends on your market, your competitors and where your site starts. Think in months and quarters, not days. Never pay anyone who guarantees you will rank and sets a date.

What should I notice in the first few weeks?
Technical fixes, mostly: a slow page getting faster, broken links getting fixed, missing information filled in. Those changes are visible right away in the tools that measure them. They aren’t the same as a ranking change, because search engines still have to notice the fix, re-crawl the page, and decide it matters.
When do real results like calls and bookings show up?
After the rankings move, and we won’t put a date on either. What we tell every client is that SEO is measured in months and quarters, and that the timing depends on your market, your competitors and where your site starts. How many calls a better ranking brings depends on your market, your prices and how fast you answer the phone, and no ranking forecast knows any of those.
Is local SEO faster than competing nationally?
Generally yes, because you’re competing against fewer businesses for a narrower, more specific search, not the entire country for a broad term. That doesn’t make it instant. It still runs on the same crawl-and-re-evaluate cycle as any other ranking change.
Does a brand-new website take longer?
Usually, yes. A domain with no history has to earn some baseline trust before rankings move much at all, on top of the normal fixes-then-rankings sequence every site goes through. An older domain with existing content and links has a head start a brand-new one doesn’t.
Why won’t an honest agency give me a date?
Because nobody outside Google controls when or how a ranking changes, and Google’s own guidance to business owners warns that if an SEO guarantees you first place in search results, find someone else. Never pay anyone who guarantees you will rank and sets a date. They are guessing, so we give expectations with their assumptions stated and never a date. The exception is a search for your exact business name. That usually shows up fast, and it’s a far easier problem than competing for a general service term.
Rankings don’t stay put once you have them, either, which is why we run SEO as a cycle every two weeks instead of a one-off project.
